Archaeologists from the Blick Mead dig have joined forces with other Stonehenge landscape archaeologists to put forward their fears over Highways England’s plans to tunnel the A303 past Stonehenge.
The tunnel is seen as a ‘retrogade step’ and archaeologists claim that consultations have been closed minded to the other, possibly undiscovered, archaeology that lies within the World Heritage Site but not immediately in view of Stonehenge.
Altogether 22 notable archaeologists have come forward to air their views, all of which have had a huge influence over our knowledge of Stonehenge and have shaped the way we now view it and how it is understood and displayed in museums and exhibitions.
